ROCKIVERSITY'S musical director is Emmy nominated musician Dean Marino. Mr. Marino's webassets/HeadShot.jpgprofessional and educational music experience spans 3 decades. For 20 years he lived and worked in Los Angeles, CA. as a musician/composer-arranger/music editor. He studied jazz/rock keyboards and music composition with Dick Grove, Mundell LoweLalo SchifrinHenry Mancini,,, Allyn FergusonNelson Riddle and Charlie Shoemake amoung others.  His training in serious composition was with Aurelio de la Vega, Frank CampoMauro Bruno and Daniel Kessner. Early on he spent a year with The Young Americans. He then began playing voluminous and diverse gigs, from jazz to rock to being the L.A. based keyboardist for the K-Pop (Korean Pop) Invasion of the 80's. This  led to performances with such artists as Nia Peeples, Mara GetzRainey and reunion performances of The Crests and The Shirelles. Through his work in motion pictures and television he has worked on productions directly with Maya Angelo, Robert Townsend, Damon Wayans and Heavy D, among others.  For many years he was legendary bassist Stanley Clarke's music editor.  He has worked on over 50 motion pictures and television shows in varied capacities: composer, arranger, conductor, music editor, technical consultant, etc.  His Emmy nomination came in 1996 for music editing on the HBO film "The Cherokee Kid" starring Sinbad. In 1999 he retired from this part of his life and moved to Ocala to raise his family.  Professionally, he then turned his focus toward teaching music. This led him to become a music teacher for Marion County Public Schools. In 2003, as a result of his innovative teaching practices, he was awarded the honor of "Marion County Teacher of the Year."  Even since retiring from the L.A. music scene, Mr. Marino has worked with world class artists such as Lourdes Robles and Pat Travers. At ROCKIVERISTY Mr. Marino is able to meld his years of working in the music business with his desire to do concentrated music education. Mr. Marino holds a Bachelor of Music Degree in Music Composition from California State University, Northridge and 3 certificates from the Dick Grove School of Music: Composing and Arranging; Keyboard Performance; and Film Scoring
